Road signs spark confusion

Drivers approaching Lower Stone Street might be forgiven for feeling a little confused.

Ongoing gas main replacement works in the town centre mean traffic is being filtered into one lane at the junction of Knightrider Street towards Upper Stone Street.

But it seems the signs have not kept pace with the speed of the roadworks.
Signs in Palace Avenue instruct drivers headed for Romney Place to keep left and for all through traffic to stay in the right-hand lane (top left)

Frustratingly on arrival at the junction of Gabriels Hill by Gala Bingo, another sign indicates the right-hand lane is a no-through road (bottom pic)

This has led to longer-than-normal tailbacks while drivers have to cut back into the left-hand lane to continue along Lower Stone Street.

And, as the Kent Messenger has reported, Knightrider Street remains closed to see if the town’s traffic gets any better.

New yellow signs inform motorists that “Knightrider Street remains closed to assist with traffic flow.”
