A ‘Wrinkly Roadshow’ is coming to town.
The brainchild of a lawyer from Barming, sessions are targeted to help pensioners with pressing issues including finance, loneliness and health care.
The roadshow will tour the county, making its debut at the Allington Community Centre, in Castle Road, on Wednesday, January 20.
Organiser Kelly Duke said that she wanted to make the event a permanent fixture.
She said: “We hope the roadshows will become a great community asset which will help empower and maintain the independence of our elderly communities.”
It aims to bring together the groups who care about supporting elderly people.
Lawyer Mrs Duke, of Marigold Way, has been considering the idea for a while but has only recently been able to act on it.
She said: “I’m quite a patient person and I have an elderly granny and my mum, who I help out.
“I thought to myself if I’m struggling to get my family support, then surely there’s loads of people out there who are in the same position.
“It’s been in my head for quite a long time, but now I have the freedom to actually do it after packing up my partnership and setting up my own law firm.”
After running teams helping vulnerable people, she began to notice the lack of advice and support.
“There’s no real one-stop-shop to hold your hand and do the serious stuff as well as the fun stuff,” she said.
“We want everyone to come along. Whether it’s with my lawyer head or with the roadshow head, I would offer people the exact same advice.
“After all, we’re all going to get old one day. Do we all know what we’re going to do?”
Mrs Duke is also asking for companies and organisations who help make life easier for pensioners to consider getting involved.
Further sessions are being planned at Lenham Community Centre on Friday, March 11, and a date is being confirmed for Headcorn for April.
