Two burglars involved in a violent robbery in which the victim was tied up with a lamp cable and beaten have been jailed.
Jordan O’Gorman and Ryan Gale targeted the man as he slept at his home in Church Street, Maidstone last year.
The offenders, who lived in the same building as the man, entered the flat after O’Gorman, 22, kicked the victim's door down at around 6.30am on November 30.
Gale, 23, kept guard as O’Gorman then repeatedly assaulted the victim, whilst at the same time binding his arms and legs with a cable from a lamp.
He was dragged by the cable towards a bathroom and then kicked in the face by O’Gorman before he feigned unconsciousness.
The men fled, leaving the victim with facial injuries including cuts, bruising and a suspected broken nose. They stole items including a television, mobile phones, watch and toiletries.
Gale was arrested hours after the incident and when searched was found to have the victim’s wallet.
O’Gorman was arrested on December 10. Forensic tests in the flat revealed his fingerprints on the lamp, while footprints on the door also matched those of trainers he had been wearing.
Both men appeared at Maidstone Crown Court where O’Gorman admitted counts of robbery and attempting to pervert the course of justice.
He has now been sentenced to a total of six years in prison. Gale pleaded guilty to a count of burglary and was jailed for 15 months.
Det Con Lisa Stevens said: "This was a premeditated robbery against someone who was known to O’Gorman and Gale.
"The victim was subjected to a prolonged and brutal ordeal, during which he was repeatedly beaten and this continued even when he was tied up and unable to defend himself.
"We were able to gather extensive evidence placing both men at the crime scene and ensure a compelling case which in turn has secured these convictions. The courts have now delivered significant sentences which I hope will provide some comfort to the victim."
