Pride at seeing their daughter walk quickly turned to anguish for parents Julia and Jon Clark.
Just as their one-year-old daughter, Ruby, had taken her first steps, she was diagnosed with hip dysplasia, a condition in which the hips do not grow properly.
But thankfully after having to wear a body cast and now a brace, the youngster has fought back.
Her parents are backing a campaign by national baby hip health charity Steps, who are calling for better screening policies to diagnose hip conditions earlier.
Mrs Clark has organised a fund-raising afternoon, featuring children’s games and stalls, which will take place at the Salvation Army Hall, Union Street, Maidstone, on Saturday, from 1.30-4pm. All are welcome.
