Cocaine user Daniel Willock, of East Farleigh, sentenced after police drugs stop in Maidstone

A cocaine user roused the suspicions of police when they spotted him searching the ground for a blue package.

Daniel Willock has lost his driving licence and potentially his £27,000 a year sales job after being arrested on August 25.

The 44-year-old appeared before Maidstone magistrates on December 23 where he admitted possession of cocaine and driving while unfit through drugs.

The court was told how police in an unmarked vehicle spotted Willcock looking on the ground before getting in his car and driving off.

He was pulled over in Boxley Road, Maidstone, and when the officers found “white powder” on him, he admitted to being a drug user.

A roadside swipe then saw him test positive for a cocaine byproduct.

Prosecutor Rajni Prashar told the bench: “He was seen searching the floor and then looking at his phone.

“He was seen with a blue object in his hand and then got in a Fiat Panda and drove along Sandling Road.”

Officers followed the car because of Willock’s initial unusual behaviour and stopped him because of the manner of his driving.

The prosecutor added: “They came to a natural stop outside the shops in Penenden Heath and a female was in the passenger seat.

“The blue package had two bags of white powder in it and he told officers he uses drugs.

“A roadside test proved positive and he was taken into custody where an impairment test deemed he was not impaired.

“However, blood was taken and he gave a reading of 633 microgrammes per litre of blood of Benzoylecgonine (a cocaine byproduct) which exceeds the 50-microgramme limit.”

Samuel Sotunde, mitigating, told the court how Willock, of Stockett Lane, East Farleigh, started taking drugs after the loss of his grandfather.

He said: “He took cocaine to help out but accepts the drugs are not working and he’s now been to the doctor and seeking help.

“He’s potentially going to lose his job as a salesman and will lose the company car, but he’s not told his employer, but wants to do that in the next couple of days and will probably lose his job.”

Magistrates banned Willock from driving for 12 months and fined him £530 for the driving while unfit through drugs offence.

The bench also ordered the drugs be destroyed.
