They are used to saving life and limb, but fire crews had a more delicate operation to perform at the weekend.
Crews had to cut a "sex game" ring from a man’s penis after he turned up at the Kent and Sussex Hospital’s A&E department in Tunbridge Wells on Saturday night.
Crews from Tonbridge and Southborough station were called to the incident, as they were covering for Tunbridge Wells fire crews, who had been called to another emergency.
Fire crews carry specialist tools for removing rings from people’s fingers.
A spokesman for Tonbridge Fire Station, said: "It is quite unusual to be called to a hospital. It was obviously the last resort for this man."
