Allington has a new bakery.
The ever-expanding Leysdown Bakery Company, which has its core base on the Isle of Sheppey, has opened a new branch in the Mid Kent Shopping Centre called Boyce's Bakery.
Just yards from Waitrose, the bakery is a former dry-cleaners shop.
Tommy Boyce, who runs the company with his father Keith, said: "We spent £60,000 doing the place up and now it looks lovely."
The bakery sells a full range of breads, rolls, cakes, and savoury snacks, as well as breakfast and lunch offerings.
The bread is baked in Leysdown but all the food preparation is done fresh on site at Allington.
Mr Boyce said: "It was a terrific reception. We had large queues and practically sold out by the end of the day."
Allington is the company's seventh branch, with an eighth store scheduled to open in Gillingham High Street in April.
Meanwhile, the former Eat N Joy Chinese takeaway restaurant at Unit 1 in the shopping centre is being taken over by Papa John's Pizza.
The closed business was restricted to opening only between 11am and 11pm Monday to Saturday, but Papa John's has applied to Maidstone council to extend this to Sundays and Bank Holidays.
