Four mutilated rabbits are being cared for by an animal charity.

The animals were taken in by the RSPCA in Headcorn after they were found in a park with their ears cut off.

The discovery comes as the charity warned that more and more rabbits are being dumped – often in parks.

One, which they have named Peter, had been let loose in Mote Park, Maidstone, and was found in a dog’s mouth.

Katie Harris, from the branch, said: “We didn’t really have the space for them, but we couldn’t say no. The worst we had before is cigarette burns on a cat, but we have never had animals mutilated like these have been.

"Even if the people who dumped them didn’t cut their ears off, they still dumped defenceless animals. You can’t leave a domestic rabbit in the wild any more than you can put a wild rabbit into a hutch, it would die.” The rabbits were found in Quex Park, Birchington."

The Headcorn RSPCA, which has 10 rabbits, will be looking to rehome them.
