Time is running out to book your place for the Heart of Kent Hospice's Moonlit Walk.
The event, which is supported by the Kent Messenger, will be held on Saturday, July 4.
The women-only 10-mile walk starts from Kings Hill and is designed to offer gentle exercise. It will be fully marshalled and lit.
Those taking part this year include Penny Burnett, who lost her husband Andrew to cancer when he was 55.
She said the care her family received from the hospice made up her mind to support the walk, along with her two daughters. It is the second time she will have done the walk.
Penny said: “The atmosphere on the night was absolutely overwhelming. I felt lit up and as if my husband was with me. It’s like being part of a very big family.
“It gave me an opportunity to meet other people who are in a similar situation.
“There were tears, but everybody was smiling. I had to do it for myself. And I am really glad I did, as it gave me a sense of achieving something.”
Another person doing the walk is Caroline Hough, 53, who has been a carer for husband Jim since 2007 when he was diagnosed with prostate cancer.
Caroline, from Larkfield explained that at first Jim didn’t want to know about the hospice, as he thought it was 'a place where you come to die’, but he tried it once and it really changed his life.
He now goes every Wednesday for symptom control and day therapy. She added: “It boosted him right away. The staff are absolutely wonderful.”
Money will be used to keep care free at the hospice, in Preston Hall, Aylesford. Running costs are £8,200 a day, with a yearly cost of £3m.
