A small fire broke out when a heat pack caught alight in a microwave.

Crews were called to a house in Crispin Court, Coxheath, on Thursday, to tackle the minor blaze and clear the home of smoke.

Two pumps arrived shortly after 10pm and dealt with the situation.

No-one was injured but the kitchen appliance was completely destroyed.

The incident has prompted a safety warning from Kent Fire and Rescue Service about microwaving wheat heat bags, which are used an alternative to hot water bottles.

many of these incidents.

"Although, we are concerned that some people might not be calling us if the heat pack has simply caused smoke rather than a fire, but clearly anything which you put in the microwave has the potential to overheat if the time is wrong, so we ask people to take care and follow the manufacturers' guidelines."
