Speedway back on Kent's map

COMPETITIVE speedway is making a return to Kent after an absence of six years.

The comeback starts with a festival of speedway at the Old Gun Site track, Old Ferry Road, Iwade, Sittingbourne, on Sun-day, June 1, starting at 2.30pm.

Six non-league teams will race in two groups of three, over nine races with the group winners and highest-scoring runners-up going through to a final, also of nine races.

Club chairman Graham Arnold said: "We have permission to hold five public events to go along with all the speedway training schools which run at the track. We intend to make each and every one of those something which speedway fans will want to see and put Sittingbourne speedway back on the map."

Teams joining the hosts Sittingbourne will be Weymouth Wildcats, Lydd Romney Falcons, Norwich Stars and Club Cradley Heath. Funds raised on the day will go to the Kent Air Ambulance.
