The High Street newsagent and stationery firm WHSmith is looking to make staff savings at its Maidstone branch.
Some staff at the store in Week Street have begun a redundancy consultation process after being told the company was reviewing its High Street sales strategy after a poor first half-year's trading results.
After a review, the company said, staff budget costs for the Maidstone store had to be "re-aligned."
It is understood the company is looking to shed 55 hours per week from its pay-roll.
The store is believed to employ 11 sales staff currently, most of whom work part-time.
The Post Office function that operates within the store is not affected.
The company has not given any indication of the extent of redundancies to be made and did not respond to repeated requests for a comment.
