A YOUNG law student from Maidstone has been killed while canyoning on holiday in France. Vikram Reddy died near the town of Tourrett-sur-Loup, near Cannes.

He is thought to have drowned in a whirlpool while canyoning on the River Loup. The sport involves riding along fast-running streams and abseiling down waterfalls.

Police in France say Mr Reddy, who was with friends, jumped from a 40ft-high boulder into the river and was sucked under. He then struck his head on rocks.

An investigation into the tragedy has been launched by French police.
