RAIDERS stole a 13.5 ton digger from a building site and used it to smash their way into a supermarket and steal a cashpoint.

The offenders struck at about 2am on Thursday at Morrisons in Sutton Road, Maidstone - a few hundred yards from Kent Police headquarters.

Staff stacking shelves in the store at the time heard a loud bang as the glass-fronted entrance was hit.

The raiders were seen to load the free standing cash machine into another vehicle and drive off. Officers are now examining CCTV for clues.
