Lilk Meadow housing scheme in Bearsted will be determined by Maidstone council this week

The Bearsted and Thurnham Society is urging members to attend this Thursday's planning committee meeting at the Town Hall in Maidstone to show the strength of opposition to plans to build on a field in the flood plain.

Councillors are due to decide on an application to build 50 homes on land know locally as “The Bogs."

The plot off Cross Keys is called Roundwell Park by the developers. The Lilk Stream runs through the site which is often flooded.

The application has been opposed by 124 residents, by Bearsted Parish Council and by the Bearsted and Thurnham Society, as well as by the council’s own conservation officer.

Nevertheless, Maidstone's planning officers are recommending approval.

The meeting in the Town Hall off Jubilee Square starts at 6pm.
