Sutton Valence School pupil Eddie Bridle is celebrating after winning the UK National Mirror Dinghy Championships.

The 12-year-old from Hawkhurst sailed to victory with partner Chris Rush, 18, despite tides and winds conspiring against them in the six races at Brightlingsea SC, Essex.

The pair - who were competing together for the first time - won three of the races and finished two points clear of their closest rivals.

Bridle has been sailing two-man boats with his father since the age of six and together they finished fifth in the Cherub class last year, which brought Eddie to the attention of European Mirror champion Rush.

The newly-formed pair are unlikely to get to add the world title to their UK one as the World Championships take place in Perth, Australia, at Christmas.
