Taking on mountain challenge

by Chris Hunter

Organisers of a charity expedition to the top of Africa’s highest peak have had to arrange a second trip to meet the demand for spaces.

kmfm’s head of radio Steve Fountain confirmed a second group is due to fly out to Kilimanjaro in Tanzania in September 2010, following the first expedition between July 8 and July 17, 2010.

So far, more than 50 people, including KM Group chairman Geraldine Allinson, have answered the call to take up the challenge of scaling the 16,700ft peak and raising £3,750 each for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

With the second trip already more than half full, Mr Fountain – also Marie Curie Cancer Care’s Kent patron – said there was even a chance of arranging a third trip the following month.

He said: “There’s always room for more. The big issue for most people is when they find out they have to raise £3,750 in 12 months, but they get lots of help from Marie Curie.”

If you want to take up the challenge, phone Marie Curie Cancer Care on 08700 340040.
