The Maplesden Noakes former head boy Oliver Bird of Larkfield banned from driving after crash with classic Minis in Beverley Road

A former head boy has been banned from driving for two years after pleading guilty to being almost three times over the limit and failing to stop following a crash.

Former head boy of The Maplesden Noakes School in Maidstone, Oliver Bird, 18, drove his VW Polo in Beverley Road, Maidstone, causing damage to two classic Minis and a hedge.

Shortly after the accident, which happened between Boxing Day and December 27, Bird, of London Road, Larkfield, gave a breath test of 90 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 micrograms.

A spokesman for the Buckland Road school today insisted that Oliver Bird is no longer the head boy of the school.

He said: "Oliver Bird is a student at The Maplesden Noakes School sixth form. He became head boy at the end of the last academic year but his position was removed from him in September after his performance was reviewed. Another student has now filled the position."

Maidstone magistrates also handed Bird a one-month curfew stopping him from leaving his home between 9pm and 6am, fined him £110 and ordered him to pay £85 costs and a £60 victim surcharge.
