A sixth former’s search for his dream job has left him feeling lucky after scooping a sought-after apprenticeship.
Matt Quinney was one of 800 young hopefuls who applied for the vacancy with Google’s marketing team.
The 18-year-old Maplesden Noakes School student stood out from a group of 120 candidates at a selection day at the social media giant’s headquarters in London, and after a one-on-one interview was among 14 picked for the role.
Matt said: “Google was really interested in the skills I had developed at school including the business challenge.
“They were looking for somebody with marketing experience who had worked in a team, so this put me in a great position.”
The business challenge, which is now in its tenth year, gives students the chance to complete project-based work with local businesses with one group picked to win £1,000.
Jane Prideaux, head teacher of the school in Buckland Road, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for Matt and he has done exceptionally well to secure an apprenticeship with such a high profile multi-national company.”
