Maidstone: Temporary lights in Hermitage Lane causes traffic gridlock around Barming

Motorists are experiencing long delays this morning due to temporary traffic lights on one of Maidstone's busiest routes.

Work is being carried out in Hermitage Lane near the junction with Marigold Way.

Tonbridge Road, Farleigh Lane, Hermitage Lane and Glebe Lane are all busier than usual as drivers try to bypass the queues.

One motorist reported queuing for 20 minutes to get out of his road.

The lights are in place while KCC Highways replaces the road surface outside the new Edge housing development, on the site of the old NHS nurses' home.

Yesterday, Maidstone Hospital warned patients to leave longer than usual to make appointments.

Meanwhile, Arriva Buses is reporting delays on routes around Barming.

Delays are expected until Friday.
