Emergency services were called to a residential street after a bonfire caused a tree to catch on fire.
The blaze at a home along Kingsley Road in Maidstone could be seen across town.
The incident happened at around 4.20pm on November 5.
Two fire engines were sent to the road and crews used jets to extinguish the flames which had also spread to a nearby shed and fence panels.
The cause is believed to have been accidental.
It is suspected a bonfire lost control and spread quickly to the tree.
At about 5pm, emergency services had left and reported no injuries from the incident.
Dark and thick smoke could be seen from as far as Asda Living by the riverside on St Peter's Street, which is approximately a mile away.
One resident nearby said: “It was so lucky, the fire brigade came within minutes. I hope everyone’s okay.
“To be honest, it was really terrifying to see the fire on top of the houses.”
Over the past few days, families across the county were celebrating Guy Fawkes Night, also known as Bonfire Night.
Kent Fire and Rescue previously posted a warning on their Facebook page in the run-up to the event.
It said: “Have fun this Bonfire Night, but please stay safe.
“We recommend you go to a professional bonfire and fireworks event, instead of lighting your own in the back garden.
“But, if you choose to have a display at home, please be responsible and keep safety in mind.
“Remember to keep them well away from trees, property and stay well back.”
The police have been contacted for more information.
