One of the stars of Made In Chelsea will be flicking the official switch on Maidstone's Christmas lights next week.
Lucy Watson, who features in the Channel 4 show, will be flicking the official switch at Fremlin Walk in Maidstone on Thursday (November 20), alongside a line-up of music acts, featuring national and local names.
Lucy, who recently hit Maidstone’s headlines after she declared her support for the campaign to find Marmie the cat, run by local woman Tracy Brewster, will be taking part in a question and answer session on stage.
It will take place at the House of Fraser end of the centre.
Hosted by kmfm’s breakfast show presenters Garry Wilson and Emma Adam, proceedings will start at 4pm and run until 6.30pm.
The evening will also feature X Factor contestants Blonde Electra, sisters Jazzy and Ruby, who were the first to leave the live shows.
They will be joined in the line-up by Kieran Alleyne, who has just been signed by Virgin records, and boy band Stateside Official, which includes former England footballer Paul Gascoigne’s son Regan among its five-piece line-up. And the main man Father Christmas will also be there with his reindeer.
Local names include singer and guitarist Fred Clark, Kirsti Robinson and Harriet Drury who all appeared in Fremlin Walk’s recent music festivals.
The shopping centre will be full of festive treats as the German Christmas market will be back, opening tomorrow (Friday).
The lights across the town centre, provided by Maidstone council, will also be switched on simultaneously, although there will not be a separate event.
A spokesman for Fremlin Walk said: “This is one of the biggest Christmas lights switch-ons we have done. Due to there not being a switch-on at Jubilee Square, we wanted to make it extra special.”
This year’s Tonbridge Christmas Festival, organised by the town’s Rotary and Lions clubs will take place from Friday November 21, to Sunday November 23.
On the Sunday, the fun starts at 1.50pm with a parade through the High Street, while at 2.15pm the on-stage musical entertainment begins.
At 4pm the borough’s Mayor, Cllr Sasha Luck, will be joined by stars from the Angel Centre pantomime, Robin and Babes in the Wood, to switch on the lights, followed by music and fireworks.
There will also be stalls and street performers in the High Street from 2pm and a funfair in the Sovereign Way car park every day.
On Sunday, November 30, West Malling will come alive when its Christmas festival is staged from 2pm to 5.30pm. The afternoon includes a lights switch-on and a visit from Father Christmas.
