Moment litterer throws McDonald’s rubbish into garden caught on camera in Hermitage Lane, Maidstone

The moment a man threw McDonald’s rubbish over the fence and into someone’s garden has been caught on video.

Hermine d’Amphernet, of Hermitage Lane in Maidstone, captured the footage from her property at 12.50am on Saturday (April 5).

After a weekend away with her partner, the 33-year-old returned home on Monday morning to find McDonald’s rubbish in her front garden - next to her bin.

She said: “It was pretty shocking just to believe that people would just throw away McDonald’s rubbish to our garden without even considering to put it in the bin.

“There was cardboard, napkins, bags and open sauces, so the sauce was on the floor. It’s not very nice.

“We were very, very surprised and a bit upset to be honest so we couldn’t believe that someone would just throw away their rubbish in our garden.”

Luckily, the property had a camera and the footage revealed the culprit. Unfortunately, a vehicle registration number is not visible.

A bright white vehicle can be seen pulling up by the property before a man climbs out and approaches the front passenger door. He then takes two hands full of rubbish from the front seat before lobbing it over the resident’s fence.

In a strange sequence of events, the littering suspect, who was wearing a gilet, appears to clamber over the female passenger before crawling into the back of the vehicle.

The woman then closes the door and the vehicle pulls away.

Hermine, who is a dog sitter and broker, said: “We’ve never seen that in two years we’ve been living here.

“Rubbish is becoming a big problem. On our pavement more and more rubbish is appearing. The McDonald’s is not very far away and I think people think it’s okay because there is no camera on this road.”

Although this is the worst incident, the couple have found more plastic bottles and litter discarded by their property.

She said: “People should be more careful, not only thinking about people but also the environment, the planet, and throwing things away in nature is not okay.

“It shouldn’t be this hard to put your rubbish into the bin.”

The couple do not believe the incident was targeted and instead think it was a random event.

Hermine believes there is a collective responsibility for the litter and that the two witnesses also have a duty to do the right thing by saying something if they see someone discarding rubbish.

She added: “I don’t want them to be punished I just want them to realise just how bad it is, not only for me but other people, for animals and for planet earth as well.

“Let’s hope the people responsible get the message. Put your waste in the bin.”

Moving forward, Hermine thinks it may be a good idea to have more cameras around McDonald’s where people are throwing rubbish away.

But, she added: “I find it very sad we have to put cameras somewhere to make sure people behave nicely.”
