A thief rammed a police car and drove the wrong way along the M20 after stealing a van.

The offender was eventually brought to a controlled stop on the A227 in Vigo following the drama in the early hours of Sunday.

Police said their car was 'heavily rammed' in the incident.

A 29-year-old man from Sevenoaks was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, failing to stop for police, assault and dangerous driving.

Nobody was seriously hurt and he remains in custody as enquiries continue.

Police believe the van was stolen from an address in Godinton, Ashford.
