People are furious about plans to turn a shop into a takeaway.
Proposals to change a Maidstone kitchen showroom into a takeaway were received by Maidstone Borough Council (MBC) on March 4, and nearby residents are making it clear they are not happy.
MA Architecture revealed the plans to transform Abacus Decor Interiors in Hildenborough Crescent into a fish and chip shop.
Residents highlighted there is already a popular fish and chip shop, Humphrey's of Allington, less than half a mile from the site.
Scott Griffin wrote a letter to MBC, voicing his concerns.
He said: "Allington definitely does NOT need another chip shop, Humphrey's at Mid Kent Shopping Centre is brilliant. We should all be getting behind our existing local businesses. It is a disgrace it is even being considered!"
Fred Smith wrote : "THIS CHIP SHOP IS NOT WANTED."
Allington Primary School is also in very close proximity, just a three minute walk away, which is riling residents up even more.
In another letter to MBC, Melanie Butcher said: "Our local primary school is a stones throw away - surely the council should take some responsibility in encouraging our children into healthier eating rather than flooding our area with more fast food outlets."
Katherine Sharley added: "I am shocked and very concerned at this prospect."
So far, no letters supporting the proposal have been published by MBC.
However, it seems the developer is taking the feedback on board.
MA Architecture's Murat Surucu, speaking on behalf of his client, said: "The initial idea was a fish and chip shop but now he is not so sure, as we have had quite a few negative responses from the public saying they do not want it.
"He is now suggesting another takeaway premises there instead, perhaps an Indian or Chinese.
"It is something my client needs to have a think about."
