Investigation launched after mouse spotted scurrying across floor of Love Food food hall at Lockmeadow in Maidstone

A rodent problem at an entertainment complex is being investigated with the “utmost severity” after a video of a mouse scurrying around the food hall emerged.

The short clip, which was shared with KentOnline, shows Ben Bowden-Brown walking into the site in Barker Road, Maidstone, at around 10pm on Friday, January 17.

He then spots the creature running along the floor, into a corner, and jumping up the wall behind some fake shrubbery.

Slamming the venue for the “disgusting and unhygienic” find, the 19-year-old told KentOnline: “I was outside the front of Lockmeadow with my friend, when we noticed through the window two rodents under one of the tables inside.

“I went in to take a video and one of them ran off but the other stayed long enough to be seen in my video before it ran towards a corner, scurried behind the fake vines into what I assume is a hole.

“I thought this was disgusting and incredibly unhygienic, especially since the hall is specifically designed to provide food for customers, and the fact the rodent seemed to crawl into a hole directly behind a food stall is awful.”

It is not the first time rodents have been spotted at the venue, which underwent a £467,000 refurbishment in 2021 to be turned into Love Food, a communal dining experience with a collection of eight food stalls.

Just over a year ago, rats were spotted at the first floor of ODEON Luxe during a screening of The Colour Purple.

Months later it was revealed Gravity trampoline park, on the same floor as the cinema, was given a one-star food hygiene rating due to a mouse infestation and droppings.

A Maidstone council spokesman said it is aware of the footage and an investigation has been launched.

“The council has not received any other reports of mice inside the building,” they said.

“Lockmeadow Entertainment Centre has a robust pest control system, and since seeing this footage, the council has shared the information with the managing agents of the complex, who, in turn, have contacted the pest control contractor for their advice and any necessary actions.

“The Love Food @ Lockmeadow Food Hall is proud of its high hygiene ratings and the tenants have worked hard to achieve this.

“These reports will be investigated with the upmost severity.”
