Three people were arrested after packages containing more than 130 wraps of crack cocaine and heroin were seized by police.
The arrests, on suspicion of drug offences, were made after two packages, the size of tennis balls, were found during a raid in Maidstone.
Those helping in the arrests included officers from the Neighbourhood Task Team for Mid Kent, set up by Kent Police to crack down on anti-social behaviour and target key crime hotspots.
Since their launch in September 2008, the team has made 67 arrests, seized 14 vehicles and played a part in reducing the number of incidents regarding anti-social behaviour by 25 per cent, from 179 in 2007 to 134 during the same period in 2008.
The team combines a police Sergeant and five officers who work alongside existing neighbourhood officers. Not dedicated to a single ward or district, the team is able to place resources where they are needed most, targeting specific issues which have been identified by neighbourhood policing.
Kent Police’s Deputy Chief Constable Adrian Leppard said: “The roll out of Neighbourhood Task Teams has already proved to be effective and as they develop across the county, residents and businesses in Kent will begin to see a real difference in policing within their community.”
