Discount department store TJ Hughes opens its doors at The Mall in Maidstone this week.
As part of the shopping centre’s refurbishment works, the store is set to open on Thursday, September 22 with a range of homeware, kitchenware, clothing, toys and beauty products.
The 28,000 sq ft shop, completed with glazed frontage, is spread over two floors. It occupies the same premises as in 2011 when the chain shut its doors after going into administration. Sixty-seven workers were made redundant after being given eight days notice.
The new installation is part of a £5million bid to revitalise the fortunes of the aging King Street centre. So far this has included remodelling of the main entrances and the access point in Gabriels Hill widened.
Toilets and lifts have been refitted and modern lighting and flooring also installed.
“We’re thrilled to welcome TJ Hughes to The Mall, Maidstone,” said Suzie Brindle, The Mall Maidstone’s marketing manager. “The department store will give our shoppers a real variety of products and some great discounts on big brands.”
