Tonbridge manager Tommy Warrilow says selling the club, not money, was the key factor in landing Tom Davis’ signature.
The 28-year-old midfielder signed a one-year contract after the Longmead board approved the deal on Sunday.
Davis’ arrival and securing a pre-season friendly against League 1 newcomers Crawley for Wednesday, July 11 capped a perfect week for Warrilow.
He said: "I am excited about bringing Tom and (striker) George Purcell to the club. I met the chairman (Steve Churcher) and other directors for nearly an hour, asking them if we can bring him in now, rather than wait until the season started and they agreed.
"I told Tom the same as George, that if it was about money I wouldn’t waste his time. We can’t compete with the likes of Eastleigh and Bromley, who are going for it, and Dover.
"lt was all about me selling the club, myself and how we want to play."
Davis (pictured), who finished the season on-loan with champions Woking from Carshalton, has won promotion with St Albans, Lewes, AFC Wimbledon and Sutton.
