Tommy Warrilow says the signing of two former players Jon Main (pictured) and Anthony Storey completes his squad building plans ahead of Tonbridge’s first season in Blue Square Bet South.
Main, 30 returns nearly four years after Warrilow sold him to AFC Wimbledon for £25,000, while former skipper Storey has re-signed from Horsham to fill the gap left by Chris Piper, who has moved on.
Much has been made of Main’s return and the fact that he has taken a massive drop in wages, but Warrilow said: "If Jon had wanted to play for money, he wouldn’t have signed for us. He knew from day one where I stood on that but he wanted to come home.
"I didn’t think I would get him and had to be patient. I spoke to him a few weeks ago and there were a lot of clubs interested.
"He went to Las Vegas with the Wimbledon boys to celebrate promotion but then got in touch, we met up and he signed."
Main scored 69 goals in 89 games in his previous spell at the club and Warrilow believes he is still has much to offer.
He added: "He is not coming back just to put his feet up and I believe, with a good pre-season under his belt, he could have one of his best years.
"I sold him three and half years ago, he did fantastically well at AFC Wimbledon and he can now help push us on in Conference South."
Storey originally left the club after he and Jamie Cade were targets of personal comments on the club’s internet forum but Warrilow says that’s now in the past.
He added: "Anthony played in a holding role previously but he will have licence to roam this time in the role Pipes did for us last season."
