Tonbridge were beaten 3-2 at home by Wealdstone in the Ryman League Premier Division on Saturday.
The visitors went ahead in the 28th minute courtesy of an own goal from Marc Cumberbatch. The defender could do little about it as a cross deflected past keeper Lee Worgan off the back of his head.
It was 2-0 to Wealdstone just three minutes later when Lee Chattell's effort from outside the box beat Worgan at his near post.
Angels were poor in the first half but whatever was said to the side at the break galvansied them and they were much improved in the second period.
They pulled a goal back on 47 minutes when Carl Rook headed in Kirk Watts's cross.
However, that good work was undone in the 64th minute when Greg Ngoyi restored the visitors' two-goal advantage, heading over Worgan to cap their first attack of the second half.
Lee Minshull gave Tonbridge a glimmer of hope with four minutes to play when he made it 3-2 but Wealdstone were able to hold out for the win.
Meanwhile, Maidstone's FA Trophy first round clash against Histon succumbed to a waterlogged pitch at Homelands.
