Tonbridge’s slim Blue Square Bet South play-off hopes suffered a blow with a 4-0 home defeat by Chelmsford on Saturday.
Hosts Angels made the better start but they fell behind on 16 minutes when Anthony Cook struck from the edge of the area.
Cook set up the second for Jamie Slabber four minutes into the second half and while Frannie Collin had a chance to pull a goal back for Tommy Warrilow's side, City secured victory with two late goals.
Chelmsford broke on 80 minutes and Robert Edmans’ header beat Lee Worgan while three minutes later, Aiden Palmer beat the offside trap and finished well.
The defeat leaves Angels 10th in the table, nine points behind the play-off places.
