Tonbridge Juddians suffered disappointment in their National League 3 London & South East promotion play-off on Saturday when they lost 19-8 at Oxfordshire club Chinnor.

Although Juddians took a 3-0 lead through a Charlie Harding penalty, Chinnor levelled through another penalty in first half injury-time and Tonbridge then suffered a blow early in the second half when substitute Carl Ambrose was yellow carded.

Chinnor capitalised on their extra man with a converted try and two penalties to lead 16-3 before Ambrose returned, and although a John Tabrett try briefly gave Juddians hope, another Chinnor penalty effectively ended the contest.

Chinnor now join Canterbury and Bournemouth in National 2 South next season while Tonbridge will remain a tier below where they will be joined by Westcombe Park who, despite beating Southend on Saturday, were relegated from National 2 South after Lydney beat Barnes 17-8.
