A sign on a lamp post next to Longford Dental Centre initially warned drivers of the upcoming closure.

It said it would be closed from yesterday (Tuesday) and will reopen on Tuesday, January 17.

The stretch of road leads onto Hayle Road – part of the town's main one-way system.

It also connects through to Quarry Road, Armstrong Road and onto the A229.

However, the gas company has now confirmed the project will need to be rescheduled.

A spokesman from SGN said: "Due to unforeseen operational issues, the start of our upgrade work in Postley Road has been postponed.

"As a result, the road remains open as normal at this time.

"We will liaise with the local authority to re-plan our project in Postley Road at a later date."
