Four people have been arrested in connection with an "attempted murder" in the centre of Maidstone.
Police was called at 12.25am this morning to a report that a car had struck two men in the Station Road area.
A spokesman said this afternoon: "Police and ambulance crews attended. One of the victims was taken to a London hospital where he remains with serious head injuries.
"The other victim was taken to a local hospital and is expected to be discharged from care."
Shortly after 2am, a Vauxhall Corsa was stopped by police at services on the A299 between Whitstable and Faversham.
Police says the occupants, three men and a woman, were arrested and taken into custody.
Station Road near Maidstone East railway station remained cordoned off by police.
Station Road and Week Street were originally taped off between Staceys Street and Brenchley Gardens.
Week Street reopened with the station being accessible from that side.
Station Road remained closed while investigations continue.
Some on social media described a "huge fight" in the area. One wrote: "I went for a meal and walking back to County Hall there was a big scuffle where some chap was accusing the driver of bumping into him. Three lads jumped out the car and there was a bunch of pushing and shoving before the Old Bill arrived."
Another said: "People stopped being served in Society Rooms and came home. My son cut through Brenchley and saw the awful scene - most upsetting."
