It started with the Queen of Shops, but now Mary Portas’s legacy has spawned a group which aims to bring culture and events into the heart of the County Town.
The Maidstone town team was created last summer as part of athe town bid for money under the Portas Review which aimed to revitalise high streets into vibrant and bustling centres.
The town lost two bids, because judges felt it was already well on the way to regenerating itself, but was given a small amount of funding to carry on co-ordinating and promoting town- centre regeneration initiatives and cultural events.
They might be promoting the town, but first they have one thing on their to-do list – to promote the team itself.
The team is calling on local people to give it a sense of identity and design a logo for them to use on events posters, literature, publications and its website.
Designs should be submitted on A4 paper or by email attachment as a pdf or jpeg. It can be designed on a computer, hand-drawn or painted using any media. They can also be entered by individuals, a groups or a school classes.
The team is hoping for an eye-catching design that reflects the nature of Maidstone.
Entries will be judged by the team and the winner will receive a goody bag of town-themed gifts – and the satisfaction of seeing their design used around the town.
