Lane of A249 Detling Hill to remain closed all weekend due to repairs

A lane of the A249 at Detling Hill is to remain closed until Monday due to road repairs which have overrun.

The left-hand lane of the Maidstone-bound carriageway is shut between the Shell petrol station and Pilgrims Way, affecting traffic travelling from Sittingbourne and the M2 towards Maidstone and junction 7 of the M20.

It was closed on Wednesday and had been set to open on Friday after repairs to two drain covers following heavy rain.

But today Kent County Council announced that the lane would remain shut all weekend.

A statement said: "Due to structural defects within a manhole chamber that works were carried out on last night it is necessary for the current southbound lane one closure to remain in place just before the Shell Garage.

"It will remain on site throughout the weekend and removed during the day on Monday, November 14.

"The extension of the current Lane one closure going down Detling Hill will be removed later this evening back to the Shell garage as works have been completed in that section."
