Traffic was brought to a halt in Maidstone after a car caught fire this afternoon.

The driver is believed to have escaped unscathed when the vehicle burst into flames beside the Carriage Museum just outside the town centre.

One pump from Maidstone attended the scene at around 4.30pm and the fire was contained within minutes.

No lanes along Mill Street were closed, though traffic was brought to a snail’s pace as it passed the burning car, the make and model of which is unknown.
