A long-awaited scheme to replace travel vouchers in the Maidstone borough, which were axed in April, will be launched tomorrow.
The scheme, which has been put together by Maidstone council, will be administered by Maidstone Age Concern. So far, the charity has received 305 inquiries for application forms to receive the vouchers, and had 100 returned. Seventy six people are so far approved to receive them.
Tomorrow, the first Maidstone resident will receive the very first voucher.
The previous travel voucher scheme ceased in April under the Lib Dem council administration, after concerns over funding the national over 60s free bus pass, which was introduced the same month.
The new scheme, which is also open to carers, was approved by the Conservative administration in August.
