A group of travellers has moved on to a public park in Maidstone.

Around six caravans appeared in South Park, off Armstrong Road, by the play area this morning.

It is understood that police have been made aware of the situation, but the power to move on those responsible for unauthorised encampments usually rests with the local authority.

The park is used by families and dog walkers as well as for sports. It contains football pitches, tennis courts and acts as the headquarters for Maidstone Hockey Club.
