Maidstone will host its first triathlon in the build-up to the Olympics.
The event takes place on Sunday, June 24, a little more than a month before the start of the games.
It consists of a 400-metre swim across Leybourne Lake, a 26km cycle around Maidstone Town Centre followed by a 5k run through Mote Park.
Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research is the official charity partner of the event, chosen by Cllr John Wilson, a dedicated fundraiser, after his wife Brenda survived leukaemia.
Cllr Wilson, who represents Coxheath and Hunton ward, said: "Maidstone Triathlon is a key event to celebrate the 2012 Olympics and the visit of the Olympic Torch to Maidstone in July, a real once-in-a-lifetime event."
The triathlon has been jointly organised by Maidstone Town Centre Management, Maidstone and Tonbridge and Malling councils and Team Outrageous, a company that runs sporting challenges in the region.
