Triple medal victory for young rower

Maidstone Invicta junior rower Alex Torbica won three medals as he represented Great Britain at the Munich International Junior Regatta.

He was chosen for the coxed four and eight on the first day of the two-day competition and for the coxed eight the following day.

Racing over a 2,000m course the GB team won the first coxed eight race and finished third in the other two events.

Torbica has been invited to GB final trials ahead of the seelction of the team for the Junior World Championships.

He will join clubmates Sam Blackwell and Craig Turner at the second set of trials.

This weekend the trio will compete in the National Schools Regatta in Nottingham.

Torbica and Turner will be joined in the J18 coxless four by clubmates Pete Bidewell and Tom Mason.

The four will join Blackwell, Morgan Hellen, Tim Grant and Ed Goacher in the eight - which will be coxed by Lara Paine.

Hellen and Grant have also been selected in the J15 double.

Another Maidstone four have been selected for the J16 and Championship coxed fours, comprising Matt Delderfield, Max Jordan, Ryan McAleese and Dave Porter.

Delderfield’s younger sister Abi will also represent the club in the women’s J14 double, alongside Abbi Stringer.

Other crews selected include the J14 double of Charlie Talbot and Ryan Mitchell, as well as Sam Blackwell in the J16 single.
