Police have launched an investigation after two teenage boys were arrested at a secondary school following reports of threats being made.
Officers arrested the two boys on Friday at the Cornwallis Academy, in Hubbards Lane, Maidstone.
A police spokesman confirmed no weapon was recovered from the school grounds. This came after rumours on social media began speculating a gun or imitation firearm was involved.
Parents of pupils at the school were sent a statement by the headmistress of the school Mrs Linney-Drouet following various rumours made on Facebook.
In the email she stated: “I understand a number of rumours have been circulating following an alleged incident on Friday.
“I wanted to reassure you all that at no point was the safety of our school community at risk and that we have robust procedures in place to ensure your children are safe.
“Thank you very much for your support.”
A spokesman for Kent Police said: “Officers are investigating reported threats made by two teenage boys at a school in Maidstone.
