Ugly scenes as police make arrests over fatal stabbing

KENT Police are seeking help to identify a number of young people who threw objects at officers during an operation to make three arrests in connection with a fatal stabbing.

At around 7.15pm last Friday police went to an address in Sutton Road, Maidstone, Between 25 and 30 young people gathered at the scene where a police helicopter was overhead.

A police spokesman said: "It is believed that out of these young people, a smaller group then began throwing objects at the officers.

"Police dispersed the group and officers are now working with the local community in order to identify those responsible for public order offences."

The fatal stabbing took place in Essex. Supt Steve Corbishley, the deputy area commander for Mid Kent, said: "Our officers were helping Essex Police make arrests in connection with a fatal stabbing when objects were thrown at them.

"This could have resulted in someone being seriously injured and I am absolutely disgusted with the behaviour shown by these people when officers were only trying to do their job.

"I would ask that if anyone has any knowledge of those responsible, they should contact us immediately."

Anyone with any further information in the incident should contact Maidstone Police Station on 01622 604180 or call Kent Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
