A father who fought against the council for a new bin after his was broken has come out victorious.
Ever since the start of June, Tim Spencer has been asking Maidstone Borough Council to replace his green recycling bin after the binmen broke the lid off while emptying it at his property in Tarragon Road, Barming.
He was repeatedly told that if he wanted a new bin, he would have to pay £25, even though Mr Spencer sent the council video from his house CCTV showing the bid being collected for emptying with a lid, and coming back without.
Only last week, when he complained his bin was filling up with rainwater, a council officer suggested he drill a hole in the bottom.
However, on Wednesday, retired Mr Spencer was a happy man after being delivered a new bin.
He said: “It was completely out of the blue. No message or notification from the council.
“Just a council workman on my doorstep with a new green bin. I’m delighted.”
Maidstone council has been asked for comment.
