Piglet and ferret racing and the chance to cuddle some cute farm animals were among the highlights when a tourist attraction opened its gates after a major revamp.

Kent Life, formerly the Museum of Kent Life, in Sandling, Maidstone, has officially reopened for its 2009 season after a £400,000 injection of cash from new operators Continuum.

Specially commissioned indoor and outdoor play areas, a Cuddle Corner where young visitors can get to stroke and pet small farm animals, and piglet and ferret racing are just some of the new features of the site.

A new entrance and gift shop have also been added, and some of the previous features have been reinvigorated, with better signage. There is also a refreshments area for parents in the indoor play area and the tea shop has also been spruced up.

Director John Jordan said: “There’s so much more than just museum artefacts and historical buildings here on our site.

“When we asked people what they wanted they said they wanted something that was more family friendly. We are launching under the banner of “family fun you’ll remember” and we are really going out of our way to get people to remember the fun that they have had here.”

Management also hope the venue could become popular for children’s parties and that families will want to become members. For detailsvisit www.kentlife.org.uk
