Police arrested two men in connection with a “creeper burglary” where the intruders stole two cars.
Burglars broke into a home in Alexandra Street, Maidstone in the early hours of October 15 and stole car keys and electrical items included a games console.
They made off in the residents’ cars, which were later recovered.
Two men from Gillingham, aged 31 and 51, were arrested on suspicion of burglary and theft. They were released on bail until November 19.
A second burglary was reported the same evening but the offenders were disturbed while trying to gain access to the house in Cross Street, and they left empty handed.
Now officers are reminding homeowners of the steps they can take to reduce the risk of becoming a victim of crime.
Inspector Jody Gagan-Cook from Kent Police said: “As the evenings draw in and it gets darker earlier, there’s no better time for homeowners to be reviewing their home security.
“Keeping car keys out of sight of windows, and not keeping them near the door is a good idea, as is investing in alarm systems, and ensuring all windows and doors are fully secured. We often recover stolen property, but the best outcome is to not be a victim of crime at all.”
