Firefighters were called to a kitchen fire in Maidstone after a washing basket was left on top of a hob.
Two fire engines were sent to Chamberlain Avenue at about 8.30am today.
It is believed the fire started accidentally.
Residents were able to evacuate their home safely after smoke alarms went off. No casualties were reported.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service's (KFRS) volunteer response team were available to provide support and advice to anyone affected.
A KFRS spokesperson said: "You can help to reduce the risk of a kitchen fire at home by ensuing any flammable items, such as washing baskets, tea towels and oven gloves, are kept well away from hobs, ovens and grills.
"Appliances might still be hot from earlier cooking, or can easily be switched on accidentally, including by pets and children."
Crews also reminded home owners to ensure they have working smoke alarms on each floor of their property.
