Shocked shoppers stared in disbelief after a fight erupted between two women in Maidstone town centre today.

A video shot by a passerby shows the pair exchanging blows before dragging each other around by the hair in scenes reminiscent of the Jeremy Kyle Show.

Two men step in after a few seconds and try to break up the fracas, which is thought to have happened between 4pm and 5pm today in Jubilee Square.

Police say they were called to a disturbance in the area at about 4.30pm, but it is not clear if this is related to the fight caught on camera.

A spokesman said officers arrested a 29-year-old woman on suspicion of assault.

She remains in custody.
