Maidstone United player-manager Jay Saunders has hailed the spirit in his camp and said four points from the past two games has given them a chance of beating the drop.

Following last Saturday’s 2-1 Ryman League Premier Division win at Aveley, the Stones are now nine points from safety with six matches remaining.

Saunders (pictured) said: "We are pleased with the way it’s gone. This week all the other results have gone our way too, which is good, but it will mean nothing if we don’t pick up the points at Tooting this Saturday.

"We have given ourselves a fighting chance over the last two games and hopefully we can keep winning."

He added: "When a team’s winning the dressing room is a good place to be. We are all enjoying it and long may it continue."

Michael Phillips (toe) will be assessed while Simon Glover is a doubt for Tooting after being treated in hospital this week for a suspected kidney stone but defender Laurence Harvey is fit.
